Open Data Day in Timișoara
Let's celebrate Open Data Day together in Timișoara, on March 15, 2025!
Unlike past editions, this will no longer be a predominantly technical hackathon-type event. Instead, there will be parallel workshops focusing on the interdisciplinary aspect of access to information and the relevance of Open Data in the current context.
At the end of the event, the results of four working groups will be presented: Instituții Publice, Academia, Societate Civilă and Business.

What is Open Data?
Government open data refers to information collected, produced or funded by public bodies (also known as public sector information) and made freely available to citizens for re-use for various purposes.
Open data is data that can be freely used, re-used and redistributed by anyone - subject only, at most, to the requirement to attribute and sharealike.
What can we use Open Data for?
Open data can be used to develop a wide range of practical applications that bring tangible benefits to society.
For example, we can look at the flow of budget spending in a particular area, or how best to optimize traffic flow in a busy city.
In addition, journalists can use open data to create data-driven stories (data journalism). Non-governmental organizations can also use this data to assess the impact of social programs and improve services to vulnerable communities.
These apps not only improve everyday life, but also help build more informed and engaged communities.
